Whats The Difference Between A Beauty Blender And A Make Up Brush?

Ever wondered what the difference between a beauty blender and a make up brush is?

Not sure what's best for you or how to use them?

Well don't worry - we're here to help!

Make Up Brushes

Make up brushes have been the long reigning foundation application tool and there's a reason for this. Make Up brushes are great for applying powder and mineral foundations.

They allow for full coverage, unlike sponges which absorb the foundation creating a sheer application.

Brushes are also better for those with dry skin, to get optimal results; beauty blenders need to be slightly damp or misted. Damping your skin with water prior to application actually makes it drier and can create a clumpy patchy mess! Use a product with hyaluronic or a refreshing antioxidant toner such as Dermalogica's Antioxidant hydramist, BalanceMe Hyaluronic Plumping Mist both available instore and online.

Brushes are great for building coverage and creating a sculpted look. There are a variety of brushes to create the best results, often required to prevent product transfer. My favourite is a Kabuki brush, wide enough for best foundation or tinted moisturiser application. Delilah's Kabuki and Real Technique range of brushes available in store.

Beauty Blenders/ Sponges

For optimal results beauty blenders need to be damp when used to 1) stops the sponge absorbing the foundation and 2) to give a sheer, natural, airbrushed finished.

Beauty blenders are great for creating a natural flawless foundation look.

When dry they can also be great for applying setting powder! The pointed end allows you to have great control of the powder for applying to the eye area.

Beauty sponges are versatile and allow for amazing dewy foundation application. They can be used for a full face routine, however can be tricky to clean compared to foundation brushes and are not ideal for dry skin types.

Both have a magnitude of benefits, however it's all about finding what works best for you!
